18 Jul Group for Young Adults Learning to Cope with Anxiety
Are you a young adult, age 17 to 26, who has been dealing with anxiety, panic attacks, or phobias?
It can be very helpful to meet with others your age who have struggled with the same issues. Psych Choices of the Delaware Valley, in Drexel Hill, will be offering a therapy group for young adults diagnosed with anxiety disorders.
In group sessions, you will meet with 5 to 8 other young adults and an experienced group therapist, Connie Opfell, a licensed clinical social worker. Each meeting will begin with a “grounding exercise” to help you feel more comfortable and safe, a process you may find useful in daily life. Then you will be invited to share any particular issues you would like to discuss, share tips, practice new behaviors, and affirm and support each other’s efforts to better cope with anxious feelings. Each session will end with a brief meditation, giving each member a moment to think about what he/she learned, or will take away from that session.
This is an ongoing group, which members may join or leave at any time (after discussion with the group leader). There are several basic guidelines for the group:
• Strict confidentiality – What is said in the group, stays in the group
• Openness and honesty
• Participation – if you join, you are expected to take part in discussion
• Arrive on time, end on time
• Cell phones off while in session
All group members are expected to be in ongoing, regular individual therapy as well as group therapy.
The group will meet on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-8:30 p.m., beginning September 10. The cost is $35 per session. Your health insurance may cover this treatment.
If you are not currently in treatment at Psych Choices, you will need to have an individual assessment with Connie Opfell to help decide whether the group is right for you.
For more information or to sign up for the group, please contact Connie Opfell at 610-626-8085, extension 212, or email her at ConnieOpfell@psychchoices.com.
